If you use Facebook, read this - if you don't, ignore.....but I share it in the interests of keeping you all informed, lest you may have missed the last potential privacy invasion. Thanks to a Facebook status update from a recruitment colleague of mine, I have learnt that Facebook has agreed to let 3rd party advertisers use your photos in their ads without asking your permission. Now, surely consent should have been required given that it will not have been something that people naturally signed up for, assumed or otherwise intended? But as these blogs have been highlighting recently, our personal data is more and more seen as a corporate information asset and is being marketed and used as such - for profitable gain by those who seek to sell it on for nefarious purposes with the minimum of appropriate legal compliance and structures around the process.
