The Government's Cyber Security Operations Centre has warned of a potentially "catastrophic" cyber attack on Britain. The forecast is made in a report prepared for the Cabinet office and seen by The Register. The document warns dependence on the internet to provide public services will soon "reach a point of no return". It suggests this will mean that "any interuption of broadband access becomes intolerable and will have serious impacts on the economy and public well being." It continues: "A successful cyber attack against public services would have a catastrophic impact on public confidence in the government, even if the actual damage caused by the attack were minimal."
