An expert has named a number of techniques for improving data and networking security in organisations. Ian Kilpatrick, chairman of technology security firm Wick Hill Group, said that compliance, encryption and hosting were three low-cost strategies for maintaining security. He added that organisations should 'bring staff on board' when they are rolling out security programmes, as employees are central to keeping data and networks safe. 'The cost of dealing with such data leakage incidents is massively larger than the cost of preventing them in the first place. In a recession, the damage to reputation can be even more expensive,' Mr Kilpatrick pointed out.
